Insight from Real, Respected and Renowned Female Physicians

"MD Secrets: How to Save Lives Without Losing Your Own" will be a collaborative book and serve as a resource for women around the world who are in the medical field. Our mission is to provide insight from respected and renowned female physicians, giving tips and inspiring words of wisdom to women in medicine. Our goal is to help new and early career female doctors prepare for their future in medicine and the juggling act of working to balance life and career.
With real-life accounts, we are looking to feature tenured female doctors who will candidly discuss their motivations, mistakes, missions and methods that have gotten them to where they are and who are willing to share their most important advice for not just surviving but thriving in medicine.
THE CHALLENGE FOR FEMALE PHYSICIANS:
Over the past two years, the number of women entering medical school rose by 9.6% to surpass men at a 50.7% enrollment rate. The process of becoming a doctor requires sacrificing years of life to schooling and residency, and many women report feeling burnout– meaning emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and a sense of low personal accomplishment– at some point in their career. A 2017 survey even cited that of 1,029 practicing physicians, 54 percent of women under the age of 45 reported symptoms of burnout, compared to 31 percent of males of the same age.
